Day 6 - Isabel to Glencross

3 MPH...3 stinkin' miles per hour!

Today it was everything we had to try and maintain 3 miles per hour due to an insane headwind. From the time we left Isabel there was a east / northeast wind blowing at a crazy speed. No kidding, it took everything I had to keep putting one foot in front of the other and not sit down and cry! To add to the weather element it started raining pretty much from the get go...sometimes sprinkling, sometimes soaking! We ran the entire run today in raingear. The B.O.B.'s also had their weather shield on which helped make them less than streamlined in the wind. For sure the most interesting weather day we have had yet. I am writing this from Judy and Frank Schweitzer's hunting lodge and as I type this the rain is coming down sideways followed by an actually scary and intimidating wind and thunder and lightning! If this turns to snow tonight I have no idea what we will do in the AM. Although that is my biggest worry right now lets not think of that now and cross that bridge when!
we get to it.

Today was actually a day of little scenery. Not because there wasn't any on our route today but because the majority of the day was spent with my rain coat hood up and pulled as low as possible. I had about a 3 inch slot to see out of which was directed at the white line on the highway right in font of me.

The only out of ordinary thing that happed today was the sheriff pulled over and talked to us. Contrary to what you were probally guessing it was not for breaking the speed limit. Actually he said he had recieved several calls from concerned citizens that 2 guys were running on the highway with "baby carriges". He soon realized that there were no babies on board, mentioned somthing along the lines of "and it looks like you'll survive out here today." and drove off.

Motivation suffered for the last 5 miles or so today because of the non-stop wind in our faces. Physically I am feeling pretty decent but Brendan has said that his right leg is "thrashed" and his foot feels "jiggity jacked".

Keep your fingers crossed that we wake up to sunny skies and decent temps. instead of...well...nevermind!

--------------------------------------
Hey everyone!
Well, "Six Toes" is right about how miserable the day was...and as it pours outside, just lost power in the "Howdy House" at Frank & Judy Schweitzers: scary because there is not only lightening, but was thundering as well.

We are in for a spring storm with snow tomorrow. We will deal with it tomorrow, since we can't do anything about it now!

I did not {actually could not} take many pics due to the rain. just when you think it can't get any worse with wind {35-40 mph sustained}, then the rain came and sleet at times- I could have just "thrown in the towel" throughout the day, but what kept me going is the thought of why Nolan and I are out here---to help change the face of cancer.

A word of advice to you all: Don't ever give up on your dreams...cause it is all too easy to do that when things get tough. Dig deep and drive on- you will not regret it!!

I am so glad day 6 is over, and after tomorrow we will be in Mobridge and halfway through our journey! Days are long, but rewarding. This is an adventure of a lifetime and we are making the most of it! AWESOME-

I hope tomorrow shapes up.

Take care and good night.

Brendan~
